A couple of weeks ago I was in the kitchen at my work. I asked my boss, Joe, to sign an insurance paper for me. His 8-year-old son was there (not surprising since my work is at Joe's house). He looked from me to his dad and back again and said, "Heidi, are you my dad's boss?" I looked at him and said, "No, your dad is my boss." Joe looked at his son, winked at him and kind of whispered, "Yeah, that's what all women will tell you." I totally wasn't expecting that. It was funny.
Well, lots else has happened since then, but since it's 11:39 pm, I'm going to bed. I do have to say this whole Holly/cancer thing has taken me by surprise. I think I'm still in a state of shock/denial about it all. Someday it will hit. All I can say is Holly and her family are in my prayers. Hope she heals very quickly--from the surgery and otherwise.
Holly did say she saw John and Myra at the surgeon's office last Friday. She has the same doctor as John. How crazy is that? And that they'd be there at the same time.

Homework, Work and Going Back to School
I guess it's about time to update again. Let's see what everyone's up to:
Amber - has been reading alot lately. I haven't even had to bother her about it. In December it was like pulling teeth to get her to read, which is strange because usually she likes to read. I "borrowed" her library book the other night and she was rather miffed with me that I had to read two chapters in it. I guess that's because it was 10:00 on a school night and the book was due the next day. I just had to read the last 2 chapters of "The End" by Lemony Snicket to see if the rest of the book was worth reading.
Amber spent one night at Kyleen's over Christmas vacation and one night at Katelyn's. She was happy about that.
Jarom - stated last night that he is not going to take hard classes in high school because he is tired of all the homework. He does have alot of homework. The last few nights he fell asleep really early - like about 7 pm. I guess going back to school this week has worn him out.
Jarom is downstairs now directing his dad how to play a game on the wii. Maybe, if he's lucky, his dad is even letting him play the wii. Who knows.
Cameron - is asleep on the living room floor as I type this. I guess tonight's his turn to be tired early. Cameron is frustrated that I have not been very good at helping him with his math or physics. It almost feels like another lifetime that I took (and understood) those classes. I told him he needs to ask me questions on my non-work nights and give me a bit of time to figure out what is going on. I can't dust off the cobwebs that fast!
It was kind of funny because last night Jarom kept asking Cameron for help on his math. Cameron tried helping him, but Jarom was annoying him. I told Cameron that now he knows how I feel. Cameron said, "That's different, he's not my son!" I am not sure how that's different, but in Cameron's mind it is.
Meagan - is at work right now. I guess she is liking work now. The other night I went to pick her up and got there early. They sure are busy on Tuesday nights. That's because it's $2 skate night, instead of the usual $6. Meagan says she likes working Monday nights better, when it's not so crazy.
Meagan is getting ready for her last semester of high school. I have been trying to figure out how to sell her Humanities textbook and buy her writing textbook. Still working on that. Hopefully she can sell her book to one of the kids at her high school. Probably make more money than selling it back to the college book store - if they'll even buy it back! They're discontinuing that textbook after this school year. At least that's what we hear. It's crazy how often colleges change textbooks.
I am sure glad I don't have to pay for her other textbooks - or any of the other kids', for that matter. Expensive! Hopefully she can make enough off of last semester's textbook to pay for this semester's. At least it's a less expensive book - $80 new for the writing book as opposed to $102 new for the humanities book. I have been wondering how different the humanities textbook will be in a couple of years as opposed to this year's if Cameron decides to take that class.
David - still the wii. He loves that thing. At least he's getting some exercise, huh? David and I have started trading off cooking dinner. I cook dinner on my days off and he cooks it on the days I work. So far, so good. That makes me happy!
Me - starting to get used to my job. Man, it is alot of stuff to remember. I had to make myself several checklists just so I can remember to do everything. I do really like only having to work 3 days a week. This week I worked Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. I don't like working 2 days in a row if I'm going to work 7 to 7-1/2 hour days. That's just too much for me.
Going out and spending the morning with Sheri was much more fun than going to work. We were going to muscle test, but instead, I helped her edit some of her book and permission letter. And in return, she made me some almond milk in the vitamix.
We did get the tires on the Suburban fixed. Actually, the garage we took it to had to put 2 different tires on it. Apparently 2 of the new tires were really out of balance, so they had to put extra heavy weights on them. The tire weights were so heavy, they fell off the tires while we were on the freeway. It's all good now, though. I knew it would be. Thank goodness we found a really good auto shop to take our cars to. We've been going there several years now and I can't imagine going to anyone else.

The Best Thing that Happened to Me in 2008
Well, 2008 has come and gone. Yet another year begins. I was trying to think of what I would write if I wrote one of those Christmas letter kind of things. I don't even do Christmas cards. I think about it every year, but December is so hectic, it never gets done and then it's January and oh well.
Yeah, what did I do this last year? I got a new job. On Wednesday I was not liking it so much because the passenger side rearview mirror on the suburban got cracked while I was at work and I am not sure why. Pretty sure it wasn't cracked before work because it just passed safety and i/m the day before. Oh, well. Work today was better, so I guess it's all ok...
In other suburban news, we got 4 new tires because the old tires wouldn't pass safety. Apparently the new tires weren't balanced very well because once we got on the freeway, we were bouncing all over the place. It was almost like being on the road to the Bear River Bird Refuge. Never been to the bird refuge? It was really cool, but the road was so bumpy that things were falling off the inside of the car - like the trim on the doors. I was beginning to wonder if the car was going to make it there without a wheel falling off or something.
Let's see. What's the best thing that happened to me in 2008? Oddly enough it was that I learned to muscle test for myself (because i was forced to!) and found out that I could do it! I'm still not big on testing for anyone other than myself, but on occasion I do. I did not fall apart after my kinesiologist visits ended like I feared I would, mostly thanks to Sheri and, how do I say this?, quite literally God and angels and well, let's just leave it at that. They DO exist and are ready to help anyone willing to ask for help. Sometimes you just gotta know how to ask and how to get the answers. I guess that's why Sheri's writing/publishing her book, so other people will know how to ask and get answers, too.
Every day I am so glad that I was able to meet and learn from the amazing kinesiologist who quite literally saved my life and helped me believe that life was worth living. I can never thank her enough for that. She helped me in ways that scores of doctors, therapists and counselors couldn't. God works in mysterious ways. I also can never thank my parents enough for paying for my visits 'cuz I don't know how I would have afforded them without their help. Thanks mom and dad!
Well. That totally was not what I was expecting to write! I don't think I would have put that in a Christmas letter. Hmmm...probably not.
Anyway, Happy 2009!
