Here's what I've found out about landscaping:
When you go to the nursery (or Home Depot or wherever) to buy plants, make sure you get all the other stuff the plant tag says you'll need at the same time. Like soil amendment, mulch, fertilizer, etc. etc. Otherwise you make lots of trips to the store and it takes forever to get your plants planted. We bought a shrub a week and a half ago that I have yet to get planted. Now that I have everything, I'm going to plant it tomorrow.
I learned something a couple of years ago, too, thanks to Anna. When you plant a new plant, you've got to water it every day for the first summer, or it will die. No wonder the crimson pygmy barberry bushes I planted all died. And the little pine trees. And lots of other stuff.
I like flower bulbs. They're pretty hard to mess up. You don't have to water them every day. The only thing I don't like about bulbs is that they look really pretty for a few weeks, then they die and look bad and weeds grow up and take their place. Ack! That, and you have to dig them up every few years and thin them out.
I'll have to tell you what Bro. Tuia told David and me about growing grass (as in lawn, not drugs) and fertilizing gardens. But that's for another day. Guten nacht!

why do you need all that stuff to plant something? we just plant it and water it most every day and throw a little fertilizer on it--the same fertilizer as we throw on the garden and everything else--ammonium nitrate or something like that. we have a big bag of it that seems to last for years.
when is meagan going to write on her blog again? or won't she say? maybe she is too busy graduating.
we also put a little snail bait around plants that we think snails might eat. we water new plants more than old plants. we don't drowned any of them, let the soil dry out just a little, so they don't always have soppy feet.
Is the fertilizer ammonium sulfate? Bro. Tuia was talking about that, saying it was wonderful. Maybe I'll have to get some...Maybe I can get Meagan to blog about graduation? We'll see.
yes, it's ammonium sulfate.
meagan's graduation party was very fun. she is a very beautiful young lady and i love her hair. those boys that had things written on their caps didn't get to wear them on stage.
I was wondering why some of the boys didn't have their graduation caps on when they went across the stage. One of them DID make it across with his cap on - his cap said "I did it!" in yellow letters.
Meagan does have pretty hair. She finally found a curling iron that curls her hair so the curl stays in. It's ceramic. She's very excited about her discovery.
Did you notice that Tyler had several leis on at graduation? It seems as if the Hispanics liked the lei idea almost as much as Polynesians.
Brandon came over at about 11:00last night to take Meagan out to wander around so she wouldn't have to stay home after graduation. I told him he could have a cupcake. He said, "No thanks, I was just at my grandma's and she made me eat a ton of food. I'm not hungry." So where did they go? To Carl's Jr. for cheesecake. Silly.
when do we get to met this nice brandon guy? i'm glad they didn't go out drinking like some of our senior class did and get in a car wreck and get killed--kids from north marsh, of course, who had been consolidated in w/us that year.
We saw a girl going to graduation while we trying to drive down 41st south who had "60" on the top of her cap. We finally realized that she had probably meant to put '09, but had done it backwards. OOPS! I hope she wasn't valedictorian, because she didn't seem to notice. Go class of '60! ;)
Class of '60! That is too funny! Maybe one of her friends told her? I don't remember seeing a cap with '60 on it. If she was anything like Meagan, she was probably too stressed to notice she'd put it on upside down. Meagan was glad she made it there before they called her name! Plus, she got to sit by her friends Kaycee and Mandy, so that was good.
I'm not sure when you'll get to meet Brandon. Holly wants to meet him because he's African-American, originally from Georgia and adopted. He's also LDS. That part makes David happy (and me too).
The funny thing about the graduation cap is they only go on one way, so she couldn't have put it on the other way 'round. She obviously didn't think her decoration through very well before she did it. But she did think through the very sparkly rhinestone accents...
