Meagan and I went to a Stake Enrichment meeting together this morning. It was nice. They had 4 mini-classes everyone got to go to, then they had lunch. The only thing they had that I could eat was vegetable soup, but at least I could eat that. I came home and ate some more lunch.
My favorite part of the whole thing (other than hanging out with Meagan and other women that I like) was Sister Blunt's story about the Spanish translator. They made sure that all the Spanish speaking women were in one group and they had a Spanish translator go around with them. Sister Blunt grew up in South America speaking Spanish (can't remember which country). She was speaking English and letting the translator translate, because half of the class was English-speaking. At one point she and the translator got mixed up and she started speaking Spanish and he started speaking English. I find that humorous after having worked with translators before. Unfortunately I am only fluent in English. I know enough Spanish that I can figure out about 1 out of every 5 words, which doesn't make for understanding it very well.
Other than that, we got to make cards. I barely had enough time to get mine done. They gave us all of 10 minutes to make a multi-layered card. Then we had lessons about becoming a Zion people and that we are important and special and should be nice to everyone. Pretty much what I already knew, but it's good to hear it again.
David - is making lasagne at the moment. We've got lots of cottage cheese and I'm not eating it anymore, so he has to do something with it so the kids will eat it. He is obsessed with a PS2 game called "King's Field." I don't even like watching him play the game - it has rather bad graphics and annoying music, but he likes it. Alot. Last night when we went to a wedding reception, instead of turning off the game, he had Jarom play it for him. Then he went back to playing it until 2:00 am when I went downstairs to see what he was doing.
Meagan - went to Enrichment Meeting with me this morning. She was really hungry and was glad they had seconds. She kept bugging me about wanting to eat cheese bread and sugar cookies. "There's lots of yummy gluten in there," she said, waving it in my face. All the women at our table wanted to know if I was allergic to gluten. We took some extra cookies home to David and the kids. Amber said they were really yummy. Meagan is now off with Tyler (of course). I don't know where they were going. Probably to watch a movie. They both get to work tonight.
Cameron - is annoyed with me today. I'm thinking he didn't get enough sleep last night. I saw a note on the piano about signing up for classes next year on the internet. I asked him if it was his, he said he didn't need it and kept scowling at me when I asked him why. Finally he started talking to me. I think we need to go meet with his counselor and make sure he is taking the right classes so he can graduate. It would be good if he graduated with the rest of his class.
Jarom - got a note from AMES Academy inviting him to apply. I asked him if he wanted to go and he said "no," so I tossed the note and didn't think much of it. Last night at the wedding reception one of the moms that has a daughter Jarom's age was raving about AMES. If students go to AMES they can earn 30 hours of college credit and get 75% off tuition at any state owned college. That sounds kind of tempting. I came home and told Jarom, but he didn't seem too impressed. Of course, he was playing "King's Field" for his dad at the time. I think he's kind of addicted to that game, too.
AMES Academy, if you are wondering, is a charter school that is held at Cottonwood High. The acronym stands for Academy of Math, Engineering and Science. (Which makes calling it AMES Academy rather redundant, doesn't it?) Jarom says he wants to major in Engineering, so it might be just the thing for him, but he gets to decide, because he's the one that's going to have to ride the bus to school and do all the homework. Meagan had a chance to go when she was finishing up 8th grade, but she wanted to stay with her friends.
Amber - has been bugging me about getting her gameboy back. I guess I should see if I have it. I thought she'd never want to play it again now that she has a DS. Guess I was wrong. Amber has been doing pretty well at reading every night. During most of the month of January I had to remind her every night - and take away her DS during the week until she'd read at least 4 days. I may have to start doing that again, though. I wish I had someone begging me to read. I'm not sure if I could stop at 20 minutes, though.

you have a most interesting family. when i was a kid, we had a radio and that was the extent of our electronics. i think i am grateful for that. computers and games are nice, but people get addicted to them and don't want to do anything else like talk to people or do their school work or go to work or do a decent job of anything else, but play the games or stay on the computer--or even take time to smell the roses. i'm glad you had
a good time at enrichment--meagan has a very cute sense of humor as does her mother. cameron sounds like a typical teenager, but not the kind that's fun.
what's anna up to lately?
how did david's lasagna turn our? what did you eat?
Yeah, I'm not too crazy about electronics, either. They can be really useful if you can manage to not get addicted to them. About the only "game" I play is wii fit, and even that's only been once a week.
I have no idea what Anna's up to. I called her last week and left a message, but she never called me back...
I guess David's lasagne turned out ok. It all got eaten. Even Jarom ate some, if that tells you anything! I can't remember what I ate. I think a bowl of cereal and an apple.
